Q. Can I bring a dog with me?

A. Yes, we encourage each student to bring a dog to take through the course. The best age range is from 1 to 3 years, but can be as young as 8 months, or as old as 4 years. We recommend a dog that has not had formal training. If you have any questions about your dog, you can contact National K-9 for guidance.

 

Q. Is National K9 an accredited school?

A. Yes, National K-9 is approved by The Ohio State Board of Proprietary Education, (reg. # 82-02-0753T) and as such, must comply with all the rules and regulations established by The State of Ohio.

The State of Ohio recognizes both The Professional/Obedience and The Master Trainer Courses, thereby granting National K-9 the authority to issue certificates to graduates. These certificates are accepted throughout The United States and around The World.

 

Q. Does National K9 have any financial aid programs?

A. No, students must provide their own funding. Check with your local library, they usually have information on financial aid such as grants you may be qualified for.

 

Q. What standards does a prospective student have to meet?

A. To attend National K-9, a student must have a high school diploma or it's equivalent, and be physically capable of the rigorous demands.

 

Q. Do you offer a correspondence course?

A. No. If you are serious about dog training as a career, you need hands on instruction. No videotape can replace the immediate feedback an instructor can provide.

 

Q. Do you have any other locations?

A. No. National K-9 is located in Columbus Ohio and has had students come from all 50 states and more than 30 foreign countries. In 1999, National K-9 had the 100th class of students go through the school.

 

Q. Do you offer night classes?

A. No. Our curriculum is very concentrated and we can provide full time instruction only.

 

Q. What is the size of the average class?

A. We average 14 to 16 students per class so we can maintain quality instruction.

 

Q. What is the average age of students that attend National K-9?

A. The average age is 27 to 30 years old.

 

Q. How far is National K9 from the airport?

A. For those students that need to fly to get to Columbus, the trip from the airport to National K-9 is only 5 minutes. We provide pick-up and drop-off service.

 

Q. How much can a Professional Dog Trainer earn?

A. While no school can guarantee a graduate a particular salary, we find the average income to be in the range of $1,200 to $4,000 per month, or more, depending on the individual's desire, skill and motivation.
